“C’etait tres bien” is what everyone who attended “Les Dragons de Villars” the French opera presented at the Empire Theatre last evening has to say of the performance.

A fashionable audience filled the theatre and expressed its appreciation by frequent and loud applause.

The solos of Miss A. Labranche and Mrs. Louise Bitter were the special features of the evening. Never in the history of the local amateurs productions have the people of this city ever heard anything of its kind.

All who took part in the play acquitted themselves with honor.

This year, for a change, the program will be limited to the three high schools in the city – Lewiston High School, St. Dominic’s High School (Girls) and St. Dominic’s High School (Boys).

“It is my opinion and that of officials that I have spoken with that juniors and seniors would profit more by it than grammar school youngsters,” Durocher declared in explanation.

Lewiston Police Chief Herve Gendreau may be retiring before the end of the year.

Gendreau confirmed that he submitted a letter concerning his retirement to City Administrator Lucien B. Gosselin last Friday.

Gosselin, contacted late Sunday, said he received a letter last Friday concerning the chief’s leaving the Police Department.

The reason for the hesitation explaining the move is due to a possible “substantial delay” in when retirement will take effect, according to Gendreau. He deferred answering further questions about the delay, saying that his letter would clarify the situation.
