Taking applications

RUMFORD – The River Valley Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the annual Christmas in the Valley scholarships.

The Chamber presents two $250 scholarships to a deserving student from Mountain Valley High School and Dirigo High School.

Information and guidelines can be picked up at Mountain Valley High School’s guidance office, 799 Hancock St., Dirigo High School guidance office, 99 Weld St., Dixfield, or at the Chamber office, 10 Bridge St.

The deadline for application submissions is May 1.

Society meeting

CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 21, at the old schoolhouse. Following a potluck supper at 5:30, a video of the 1987 flood of the Webb River will be shown. Everyone is invited to bring photos and share memories of the event.

Crafters sought

RUMFORD – Crafters are wanted for a “Cabin Fever” Craft Fair at Hope Association from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9. There is a $10 table fee, which goes to Hope Association.

For information, call Debbie Averill at 364-8353 and leave a message. Deadline is Thursday, April 30, to reserve a table.

Workshop deadline

PARIS – A workshop, “Maintaining Produce Quality from Field to Table,” will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Oxford County Extension Office, 9 Olson Road.

Leader will be Mark Hutton, vegetable specialist for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

Preregistration is required. Call the Oxford County Extension Office at 743-6329 or 1-800-287-1482 by Friday, April 17. Sponsor is the Oxford County Ag Group.

FARMINGTON – A fish chowder lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the Fairbanks Union Church. Cost is $7, eat in or take out. Call 778-4705 for delivery.
