NEW YORK (AP) – San Diego Padres right-hander Walter Silva will miss his next scheduled start with a strained right forearm.

Silva was injured while batting in the second inning of the Padres’ 6-5 victory over the New York Mets on Monday night in the first regular-season game at Citi Field. The 32-year-old rookie stayed in and got a no-decision, allowing five runs and five hits in 4 2-3 innings.

“We’re giving it another day to see if it quiets down and we’ll make the determination on the disabled list probably in the next day or two,” manager Bud Black said before Thursday night’s game against New York.

Silva has no record and a 6.52 ERA in two starts this year. Black said the club is still working out who will start Sunday at Philadelphia.
