LIVERMORE FALLS – The sounds of trickling water and a few birds in the distance disturbed the peace late Sunday afternoon.

A beaver swam with a portion of its head and back above the water.

It went at a good pace as it did laps near its lodge. It was oblivious to the human beings watching from the shore and a camera clicking away.

Back and forth it went to one side of the dammed up water hole to the other side of the lodge. The massive mound was built from pieces of nature.

Trees nibbled down to points, then dragged across the ground left paths leading to the water’s edge.

The beavers had been busy this winter and were still going strong.

After several laps around the water, the beaver walked up on shore on the opposite side.

It smelled a branch but climbed higher on dry land to some downed branches and started gnawing.

The noise sounded like a hand-saw moving, slowly back and forth on wood.

A second beaver came along and swam by the first beaver a couple of times before it gave a slap of its tail to the water. IT was a warning to fellow beavers that danger may be lurking.

The second one headed to the same branch the first beaver was chewing on until the approaching beaver gave what sounded like a hiss.

It sent the first beaver scurrying back into the water.

The second beaver followed soon after its snack.

They both swam around but not too close to each other.

Again the two seemed oblivious to humans and the crackling of the top layer of dry-leaves crunching beneath their feet.
