SCARBOROUGH – Eva M. LaCroix, 97, of 1 Kala Lane, Scarborough, died Sunday, April 19, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, after a brief illness.

She was born in Lewiston, on Oct. 12, 1911, the daughter of Louis Sr. and Caroline Turcotte Malo. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School. In 1948, she married Alphonse LaCroix, who passed away in 1973.

For many years, she was employed as a hat buyer and salesperson for the Star Millinery in Lewiston. Always very musical, she was known for her soprano singing voice and had many recitals and public performances in the area. She served as the music director of Holy Cross Church for several years, and was a past member of the Musical Literary Club.

She was the last of the Malo family that built the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. She was very proud of her family’s contributions to the faith life of Lewiston’s catholics.

She enjoyed her time with her family, her many travels, and lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne LaCroix and her partner, Stacey Anderson, of Scarborough; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Albert Fournier; and their son, Col. Albert “Sonny” Fournier; the youngest of seven children, she was also predeceased by her six brothers, Felix, Alfred, Emile, Maurice, Lucien and Louis “Pete” Jr.
