NORWAY – Oscar H. Sweetser, 83, of Bethel, died in Norway on April 20.
He was born in Newry, on Sept. 13, 1925, the son of David and Christy (Phillips) Sweetser and was educated in local schools. On July 20, 1946, he married Barbara Morgan and they had two sons, Tom of Bethel and Wendall of Bryant Pond.
He loved people and was an avid gardener. He had been an antique dealer for many years, running Harvey’s Antiques in Bryant Pond for 17 years and in Bethel for 20 years. He also owned and operated Harvey’s Restaurant in Bethel and Harvey’s Drive-Inn in West Bethel. In his younger years, he caned chairs. He was a veteran of the Army and was a member of the VFW Post of Bethel.
Besides his wife of 62 years, and his two sons, he is survived by nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
