Dear Editor:

Too many people in today’s society don’t know how to function without pre judging others. There’s no such thing as a “normal” or “typical” person anymore, not unless they match a pre-assumed set of characteristics. If you look at where it all basically starts, females are the culprits. You don’t typically see too many guys walking down the street comparing one person’s outfit to that a celebrity wore last week.

We, females, care too much about what we look like and what others think, that this image of what someone is supposed to look like appears. It’s sad to think that so many of us have given someone the “look” if they don’t match the image. But what is the image that we’re all trying to fulfill? If we are all supposed to believe that we’re all created equal, and that we can look how we feel, then why is it that this isn’t what happens. We all know that this isn’t really how it is. You don’t feel accepted if you’re overweight, but yet you can’t be too thin either; or how much food you eat compared to how much you exercise. If you wear the style everyone else has, it gets boring and annoying. However, try stepping outside the box, and people see you as a freak.

It can really cause one to have a headache if you think about it. It’s frustrating, but yet at the same time, reality; and it’s exactly what causes people to have so many problems. People think that they’re so much better than others and at the same time claim that they don’t judge. It’s sad to admit, but we’re all guilty. However, it can all change with just one.

Obama’s stimulus plan

Dear Editor:

I feel strongly about President Barack Obama’s new economic stimulus proposal. I agree that our economy is obviously bad, and a lot of the big companies need to be bailed out to keep a lot of people employed, but what about all those small companies who employ two-thirds of Americans? They are all going under because of the roller coaster economy!

I don’t think it’s fair for all the small companies going under and ruining their credit at the same time. I think President Obama should make room in the stimulus package for the small businesses in America. I don’t feel that it’s right that companies like AIG get millions of dollars from the government and they don’t have to tell anyone where that money is going, while their employees still have six figure salaries. I think if they really needed that money they should probably cut down their payroll. I think six-figure salaries for employees of a company that is about to go under is way too much and they should have to give that up.

The little businesses have to give a whole lot more than their employee’s payroll. They have to lay off all their employees and file for bankruptcy. Where does that leave all those people who get laid off? I just think President Obama should revise the stimulus plan a little bit.

Longer moose hunt for northern Maine?

Dear Editor:

Did you know that scientists are predicting that 25% of all animal species will be extinct by 2050? Knowing this, how could anyone even think about lengthening the moose hunting season in Northern Maine for an extra week?

Lengthening the moose hunting season will just speed up the extinction of moose in Maine. I believe killing off this animal to reduce the number of car accidents caused by moose in Maine is going to be a mistake. People should find alternative ways to decrease the number of accidents involving this animal.

Many people hunt moose just for the fun of it, and I don’t think that is right. Considering hunting moose as being a sport is a far stretch. During the hunting season, these animals are defenseless. The moose don’t know that they should run away like a deer does, for example. When the hunter spots them, they basically have no chance at surviving. The only form of hunting that should be tolerated is by people who can’t afford to buy their own food. These are hunters that live off the moose meat to survive. People who just hunt because they want to hang the moose’s head up later are being wasteful and cruel. This is wrong, especially because people are starving in other countries.

Humans have done enough damage to the Earth already, such as causing pollution to skyrocket, global warming caused by that pollution, and using CFC’s which started to diminish the ozone layer. All of these problems were addressed after they started causing negative changes to the Earth. Lets’ not make that mistake again. The Earth’s climate changes cause by pollution are already killing off enough animals. However, if people stop killing these moose,we might be able to save them from an early extinction. This is one extinction that we can stop if we act not later, but now.
