EXETER, R.I. (AP) – A shuttered school in Rhode Island that’s rumored to be haunted has been spookier than imagined recently.

Five men have been arrested on charges that they used axes, clubs and knives to rob teenagers on the grounds of the former Ladd School in Exeter, which once served the developmentally disabled.

State police say the school is a popular late-night hangout for teens because of Internet rumors that it’s haunted.

The alleged robberies have occurred in the last several months, including last week. The teenage victims say they’ve been robbed of money, cell phones, iPods and other items. No injuries have been reported.

The five suspects were arraigned Thursday on robbery charges and ordered held without bail.
