FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington softball team slipped to 9-10 with a 9-6, 12-11 doubleheader sweep by the University of Maine at Presque Isle in non-conference action Thursday at Prescott Field.

In the opener, a two-run double by Erin Pelletier and a two-run triple for Erica Davis paced the Owls in a six-run blitz in the sixth for a 9-6 victory.Brittany Humphrey of New Gloucester led UMPI with a single and two doubles, while Pelletier had a base hit to go along with her two-bagger and Cassie Green added a pair of singles. Barnes slugged a solo home run for the Beavers, while Erin Porter collected two hits and two RBI and Kasey McPhail smacked a pair of singles.

Nicole Russell recorded the victory with nine hits allowed, two walks and five strikeouts for the Owls (15-9). Jess Timmreck took the loss with 10 hits allowed, two walks and four strikeouts. Liz Bergeron worked a scoreless seventh.

In the nightcap, the Owls parlayed four hits and two errors into five runs in rallying to down the Beavers 12-11. Farmington led 9-7 entering the final frame.

Desiree Smith doubled twice and drove in two runs for UMPI with Pelletier and Kathleen Higgins each singling, doubling and driving in a pair of runs.

McKell Barnes went 5-for-5 for the Beavers with four singles and a two-run home run with three RBI, while Chelsea Cozzolino singled twice, doubled and drove in four runs. McPhail and Shannon Mitchell each singled three times in the loss.

Lisbon’s Emily Moore went the distance in the victory with a walk. Bergeron took the loss with four free passes and two strikeouts in defeat.

SMCC 2, CMCC 1

SOUTH PORTLAND – Marcus Colby ripped an RBI double in the third inning to lift Southern Maine Community College to a 2-1 victory over Central Maine Community College in local men’s baseball action Thursday.

Dan Walker struck out eight batters on the mound for Southern Maine (24-3) to notch the win. Alex Smith was dialed in on the hill for the Mustangs (12-10), fanning 13 batters in the game. Central Maine put a run on the board in the fifth to prevent a shutout.
