FALMOUTH – Police are investigating a cache of weapons found beneath the seat of a car driven by a 17-year-old Minot boy going more than 100 mph on the Maine Turnpike.
Trooper Kristopher Kennedy stopped the teen after clocking him driving at 106 mph on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth, state police said.
Police said a search of the car uncovered two semiautomatic handguns and ammunition under the driver’s seat, along with a 12-inch knife, two police-style batons, marijuana pipes and three packs of cigarettes.
The teenager told Kennedy he had taken the weapons from his father’s house without permission. His two 16-year-old passengers claimed no knowledge of them, police said.
The driver faces charges, including criminal speeding, carrying a concealed weapon, and possessing drug paraphernalia and tobacco.
