JEFFERSON, Maine (AP) — Five men face misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct after a 57-year-old Richmond woman was hit by a stray bullet while driving along a road in Jefferson.
Police said the bullet went through Teresa Parker’s side door Sunday afternoon and struck her leg. She was treated at a Lewiston hospital and released.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office told the Kennebec Journal that summonses were later issued to five men from Jefferson who were target shooting about a quarter- to a half-mile away.
Investigators said they recovered the bullet, confiscated the rifles and were awaiting a determination as to who fired the shot that hit Parker.
Police said all five men were summonsed because they were firing at a target across the road without a solid backstop to trap stray bullets.
