SOLON (AP) – The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a suspicious fire at a vacant factory that used to make wood products in the Somerset County town of Solon.
Fire Chief Ronald Brown told the Bangor Daily News that the second story of the former Solon Manufacturing plant was on fire when firefighters arrived shortly after noon on Sunday.
Brown said the blaze appeared to be intentionally set and was brought under control in about half an hour.
Four investigators from the state fire marshal’s office were at the building on Sunday afternoon.
Solon Manufacturing once employed about 500 people at its facilities in Maine and New Hampshire, where it made Popsicle sticks and other wood products. The plant in Solon closed in 2003.
