PORTLAND – Pianist Paul Lewis will perform a solo recital featuring works by Schubert and Beethoven at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Merrill Auditorium. The recital is the concluding event in PCA Great Performances’ classical music series for 2008-09.
Lewis recently received two of classical music’s top honors: the 2008 Gramophone magazine awards for Best Recording of the Year and Instrumentalist of the Year for his final volume in the Beethoven Sonata series on Harmonia Mundi, released in April 2008.
Lewis is also the recipient of two prestigious Edison awards. In his concert work, he has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony, the Vienna Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony and the Seattle Symphony.
Lewis’ program for the PCA recital will include Four Impromptus Op 142 (D935), by Schubert, and Thirty-Three Variations in C on a Waltz by Diabelli Op 120, by Beethoven.
