AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A Maine state panel is meeting to put the decimal points on a new revenue forecast.

The forecast is expected to open a hole approaching $600 million in Gov. John Baldacci’s spending plan for the coming two years.

The governor’s original blueprint, designed to cover a $340 million shortfall, is under review by the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee.

Following final decisions by the state Revenue Forecasting Committee, the Baldacci administration is expected to put forth a response plan later this week.
