The able bodied citizens of North and West Auburn and vicinity turned out Thursday afternoon to help their neighbor and friend, Jesse Jones, raise his new barn. The date was changed owing to the recent snow storm so that the crew was not a large one. But 40 men, some younger, some older, each with a pick pole over his shoulder, made quick work and in just two hours, from the time the boss carpenter, John Flewelling, of Littleton, Aroostook County, gave the word the body of the large barn was up. The dimensions of the barn are 100×32 ft. with posts 20 ft. in the clear.

AUGUSTA – Gov. Joseph E. Brennan is expected on Thursday to sign the bill granting a 4-cent per gallon, four-year phase out excise tax exemption on Maine-produced ethanol.

Final enactment of the measure, aimed at providing tax relief to New England Ethanol Products Inc. for its proposed plant in Auburn, came in the hectic waning hours of the legislative session last week.

When Brennan signs the measure in his State House office, a delegation of Auburn and Lewiston officials, including Auburn Mayor John Cleveland and Lewiston Mayor Alfred Plourde, is expected to be on hand.
