PORTLAND (AP) – A Standish man convicted on a string of charges for attacking a couple with a baseball bat and pepper spray in their home in Buxton is headed to prison for four years.

Thirty-one-year-old Richard Childs was sentenced Wednesday in York County Superior Court in Alfred to eight years, with four years suspended, and two years of probation.

The Portland Press Herald quoted police as saying Childs broke into the couple’s mobile home on Jan. 8, 2008, in search of drugs. When the couple confronted him, Childs attacked the man with a baseball bat and sprayed the man and woman with pepper spray.

Childs was convicted in March of aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and assault.
