GORHAM, Maine (AP) — A camera that streams live video onto the Internet has recorded the hatching of a peregrine falcon chick at a nest in coastal Maine.

The Biodiversity Research Institute in Gorham said the egg hatched at 2:17 a.m. Friday.

The institute’s Patrick Keenan said he and his colleagues were “ecstatic” at the news. He said they were beginning to worry because they expected the eggs to hatch last week. However, he said they put their trust in the birds, which have dutifuly incubated their four eggs since March 25.

The institute, a nonprofit ecological research group, also has Web cameras aimed at eagles, loons, ospreys and finches at undisclosed locations around the state.
