RUMFORD – Five down, and one to go before the former Abbott Farm Plaza is filled with businesses.
Jonathan Rauch, vice president of Massachusetts-based Federated Companies, said via e-mail Friday that Motion Industries will move into River Valley Crossing Shopping Center from the Rumford Industrial Park. The store will offer such things as bearings and belts for agricultural equipment, power tools, hydraulics hoses and fittings, industrial weight plastic sheeting and a variety of other items.
The target date for opening is June 1.
That will make five storefronts filled.
Rauch said his company is seeking to find a movie theater tenant for the remaining 11,000 square feet of space.
Motion Industries, which is owned by GPC Corp. of Birmingham, Ala., the same firm that owns NAPA Automotive stores, currently operates a wholesale business in the Rumford Industrial Park.
Motion Industries operating manager Dan Poirier said Friday that the relocation will allow greater focus on retail business and foot traffic. He said the company has been in the industrial park for about 12 years, and the shopping center will be more visible for homeowners and other customers.
“The new focus will be on the everyday person,” he said.
He said the lease was signed for two years.
WRE Commercial Brokers of Portland bought the vacant shopping center from the town several years ago and began to fill it. The Federated Companies was a partner. Now, Federated Companies owns the shopping center.
Motion Industries joins Marden’s, The Dollar Tree, Olympia Sports and Sears.
