KENNEBUNK, Maine (AP) — The only Maine school closed because of swine flu plans to reopen Wednesday thanks to new guidance from U.S. health officials. Superintendent Patrick Manuel says calls are being made to notify parents and staff that Kennebunk Elementary School will be reopening.

The school was first closed for a week because of a suspected case of swine flu, then the federal government last week advised schools to shut down for about two weeks.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Tuesday that the swine flu virus is milder than initially feared, so the government is changing its advice on closing schools. Instead of closing schools, students with flu-like symptoms will be told to stay home.

Maine currently has seven cases of swine flu, including three adults and a youth in York County.
