PARSONSFIELD, Maine (AP) — Attorney General Janet Mills says a Maine state trooper was legally justified in firing two shots at a car driven by a 23-year-old Parsonsfield man who rammed the trooper’s cruiser and drove off.
Mills said in her report Tuesday that Trooper Daniel Worcester was outside his cruiser and believed that Jesse Sanborn intended to drive into him. He also feared that other police were nearby and at risk of being rammed.
The incident occurred Nov. 24 on the Randall Lake Road in Parsonsfield after Worcester tried to pull Sanborn over on suspicion of drunken driving. Sanborn was arrested a short time later.
Neither of Worcester’s shots hit Sanborn’s vehicle.
The attorney general investigates all cases involving use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer.
