FRYEBURG, Maine (AP) — After years of delay while the issue was tied up in the court, Poland Spring has begun work on a $2.1 million spring water pumping station off U.S. 302 in Fryeburg.
Construction is expected to take four to six months. When it’s completed, trucks will be able to pick up water that’s piped underground from the neighboring town of Denmark.
The Supreme Judicial Court ruled in March that the water bottler could go ahead with the project. Critics were concerned about the impact of dozens of heavy trucks hauling water from the pumping site each day.
WMWV said plans call for workers to build acceleration lanes to allow trucks to enter and exit the facility without disrupting the flow of traffic.
