PORTLAND (AP) – An interfaith “Blessing of the Bicycles” will be held on Sunday, May 17, at the St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland.
The Portland Press Herald said the Tuesday service will include a blessing, a sprinkling of bikes with holy water, and a moment of remembrance for riders who died during the past year.
Similar services have been held in other cities, including the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York.
Portland Green Streets and the Portland Bicycle Commuting Meetup are promoting the event as a “spiritual component” to Commute Another Way Week, which runs from May 11 to May 15.
