Embroiderers’ Guild to share work at meeting

LEWISTON – Members of the Southern Maine Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America will host a special meeting to share their love of needlework from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the Atrium Art Gallery at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The meeting coincides with three textile exhibitions, including “Stitches That Bind,” featuring work by 15 area members of the Embroiderers’ Guild.

Visitors can drop in at any time and are encouraged to bring projects they are working on, observe and ask questions or bring “show and tell” projects.

Members will work on projects, discussing items in the exhibit, answering questions and explaining the benefits the organization offers. The Southern Maine Chapter includes local area groups in Lewiston/Auburn, Kennebunk, Falmouth, Casco and the Brunswick area for those who may wish to join.

“Whether a beginner or an advanced stitcher,” said member Jill Snyder Wallace, “you can benefit from membership in our organization. You not only gain access to a wealth of needlework expertise, but you also cultivate friendships with those who share your passion. It’s exciting to have this opportunity to share the spirit of stitching with visitors.”

The two other textile exhibitions at the gallery are “Alice Spencer/ Fabricating Time: Paintings and Collected Textiles” and “Un points a temp” needlework from USM’s Franco-American Collection.

The Atrium Art Gallery is located at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St. For more information, call 753-6500.
