RUMFORD – Edith E. Vaillancourt, 94, of Middle Avenue, Mexico, died Wednesday, May 6, at Rumford Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Rumford, on Aug. 31, 1914, a daughter of George and Nellie (Jewell) Kerr. She attended Rumford schools.

She was employed for three years with Diamond Match Co. in Peru. She married William Vaillancourt Sr. in 1937; he passed away in 1997. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking and visits with her friends. She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by two children, Judy Palmer of Peru and Raymond Vaillancourt of Mexico; six grandchildren, Deborah Murphy, Lisa Noyes, Ryan Palmer, Lea Hacker, Kevin Vaillancourt and Samantha Dingman; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Vaillancourt Sr.; an infant daughter, Shirley; a son, William “Sonny” Vaillancourt Jr.; three sisters, Zella Dube, Sarah Gaudin and Serena Gigalotti; and a brother, Arthur Kerr.
