AUBURN – Sylvio Sirois, 81, of Sabattus, died Wednesday, May 6, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, after a long illness, with his family and friends by his side.

He was born in Van Buren, on Oct. 3, 1927, one of 18 children to Charles and Angeline (Levesque) Sirois and had been a resident of this community for the past 30 years.

He was married to the former Beverly Day, who died a few years ago. He was employed as a machine operator for Pioneer Plastics for many years, until his retirement.

He was a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, having served in World War II. Everyone knew him as “Uncle Sly.” He was a very generous man who was willing to help out anyone. He was also an excellent mechanic who could fix anything. Also he was an avid card player.

He is survived by one son, Charles Meintzchel and his wife, Lizzy, and granddaughter of Germany; four sisters, Theresa Pelletier of Connecticut, and Yvette Sirois, Irma Theberge and Gertrude Elliott, all of Lewiston; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
