SEARSPORT (AP) – The State of Maine training ship has canceled its scheduled port call in Key West, Fla., while it remains anchored in Searsport awaiting the arrival of replacement parts for its damaged engine.
The 500-foot Maine Maritime Academy ship set sail last Wednesday from Castine for its annual two-month training cruise with port calls planned in Key West, Puerto Rico, Baltimore and Newfoundland.
The ship was barely under way when it experienced engine problems, forcing it to stop in Searsport, where it has stayed while awaiting replacement parts from Germany. The parts have arrived in Castine, but the Bangor Daily News says it’s not known how long the repair work will take.
