MADISON, Maine (AP) — New England’s largest greenhouse grower of vine-ripened tomatoes will begin hiring 75 new employees this month to work at a second greenhouse that goes into operation this summer.
When Backyard Farms opens its new greenhouse, it will have a total of 42 acres of greenhouses in the central Maine town of Madison and employ about 175 people.
The company also announced it has opened a corporate office in Portland as the home for its executive, sales, marketing and finance staffs.
Since its first crop in 2007, Backyard Farms says it has grown more than 30 million pounds of tomatoes for sale across the Northeast.
