AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Central Maine Power Co.’s largest union is without a contract after the old one expired without a new agreement being reached.

The contract between CMP and the Local 1837 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers expired at midnight Saturday. The IBEW said negotiations continued until 6 p.m. Friday and that no further bargaining sessions have been scheduled.

The union earlier this month voted down a contract and authorized a strike, but for now is advising its members to continue reporting for work as scheduled.

The IBEW represents nearly 700 of CMP’s 1,200 employees.
