After-school program offered at Root Cellar
LEWISTON – With a large expansion of its services under way, the Lewiston Root Cellar, 89 Birch St., has focused much of its attention on neighborhood youth and their families and will offer an after-school program for children.
The advocates and staff at the Root Cellar will assist youth with their homework, provide snacks and offer arts, crafts and other activities for the children.
All services offered by the organization are free for the families that wish to register. The after-school program is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Root Cellar offers a safe and positive alternative for many children whose parents are at work. On any given afternoon, there have been 15 to 30 children attending the program.
To register for Root Cellar programs, or for more information, call 782-3659. The nonprofit organization relies on donations from businesses, churches and individuals and does not receive state or federal funding.
