LEWISTON – A cab driver told police he was robbed of his fares at knife point by a passenger Tuesday morning.

A City Cab Co. driver said he picked up a white man in his 20s at Main and Curtis streets near St. Joseph’s School and took him as far as 143 Bartlett St. near Albert’s Variety store. That’s where the man told the driver to pull over, police Lt. Mark Cornelio said.

The man brandished a small buck knife, grabbed the driver’s backpack that was between the two front seats and bolted from the cab, the driver told police at about 3:30 a.m. Inside the backpack was the driver’s log and $90 in collected fares, plus his wallet that contained $20, he said.

Police are investigating the report, Cornelio said.
