ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – The Oakland Athletics claimed left-hander Craig Breslow off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and transferred second baseman Mark Ellis to the 60-day disabled list.

The A’s said Wednesday it will make an additional move to clear a spot on the 25-man roster when Breslow reports to the team.

Breslow went 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA in 17 relief appearances for the Twins this season.

Ellis was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 29 with a strained left calf. He has a .206 batting average with two doubles and nine RBIs in 18 games this season.

The Athletics also decided not to activate injured infielder Nomar Garciaparra from the 15-day disabled list for Wednesday night’s game. There was a chance that Garciaparra, who was placed on the DL April 29 with a strained right calf, might have be ready for games Wednesday and Thursday at Tampa Bay.

Oakland manager Bob Geren said Garciaparra will work out a couple more days before a decision on his status will be made.
