Authorities say instead of pulling over for police on May 7, 29-year-old Jeffrey Hillsgrove jumped out of his van, ran into the woods and then swam across the Salmon Falls River to Rollinsford, N.H. Police lost track of him until Tuesday, when they got an anonymous tip.

Mainer dies when car hits grader

CASTLE HILL (AP) – State police say a Maine man was killed when his car hit a grader that was on the shoulder of the road.

Police said the crash happened on Wednesday as 48-year-old Terrance Lavway of Castle Hill approached a state road grader, which was on the road’s shoulder. Lavway apparently misjudged the distance between his car and the grader when attempting to pass and struck the grader.

Troopers say Lavway, who was not wearing his seat belt, died at the scene from massive internal trauma.
