LIVERMORE FALLS – The Area Youth Sports directors are not interested in taking over the summer recreation programs here or in Jay, Livermore Falls Town Manager Jim Chaousis told selectmen Monday.

The president of the youth sports organization had sent a letter to towns in April asking if selectmen were interested in hiring the organization to provide a summer recreation program.

The program would have served children in Fayette, Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls, according to the letter.

AYS President Tom Welch had said at the time that he was trying to find out if the towns were interested and then planned to run it by the organization directors.

“The Board of Directors discussed and they were not interested in pursuing it at this time,” Welch said Tuesday.

Part of it is because AYS is a volunteer service, Welch said. Some felt there were too many aspects that they didn’t feel they knew about.

A few of the board members were interested in pursuing the idea further, he said, but the others were not.
