First aid course

FARMINGTON – Registration is being accepted for a first aid course being offered at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The standard first aid course will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 28, in the Bass Room.

Topics will include first aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies and environmental emergencies. There is a $45 fee for each course, which includes the cost of a textbook. For more information or to register, contact Amanda Brown at 779-2381.

Spring cleaning

NEW VINEYARD – The New Vineyard Public Library will have a spring cleaning day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 30. Projects will include working in the flower garden, washing windows, dusting and organizing.

Blacksmiths to meet

WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Wilton Historical Society. There will be discussion on upcoming events and new projects. The “open forge nights” will be from 7 to 9 p.m. June 9 and 19 in the forge room at the Wilton Historical Society building. Visitors are welcome.

The program will be an auction. Members and guests should bring an item to be auctioned at the meeting. All proceeds will go to the association.

Garden club lunch

FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will hold its annual meeting at noon Tuesday, June 2, at the United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road.

The Methodist Men will serve a turkey lunch with the fixings and dessert. Anyone wishing to attend the lunch must call Marion Hutchinson at 645-2067 before Tuesday, May 26, for a reservation.

New club officers will be installed and dues will be collected for the upcoming year.

Anyone wishing to attend is invited.

Parade entries

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Independence Day Parade Committee is looking for entrants in the parade. Businesses and neighborhoods are among those invited to enter a float.

Park is open

BETHEL – Angevine Park and swim pond, located on the North Road 2.2 miles from Route 2, is open for the season daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

A few posted park rules are enforced. These rules include no dogs, no alcohol and no tobacco. For more information, call 824-2669.

Final storytime

RUMFORD – The final preschool storytime for this school year will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Rumford Public Library. The theme is “Picnics.”

Following the storytime those attending will go outside for a picnic in the library park, so bring a lunch and a picnic blanket.

If it rains, they will spread the blankets in the public room.

All area children ages 2 to 5 are welcome.

Storytime will resume in the fall.

NORWAY – A spaghetti dinner, a fundraiser for the Progress Center Special Olympics Team, will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the First Universalist Church, 479 Main St. Cost is $3 a person.

Plant sale

OTISFIELD – The Otisfield Volunteer Firefighter Association will hold a perennial plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at the Spurr’s Corner fire station on Route 121.

With more than 15 gardens donating from Otisfield and beyond, many of the plants are mature in gallon-size containers or larger. There will be an information table about skin cancer prevention. There will also be a garden theme basket raffle.

Annual dinner

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Historical Society will have its annual baked bean and casserole dinner with homemade rolls and pies to start off the Old Home Days weekend at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 5. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for ages 12 and under.

History lecture

AUBURN – The Androscoggin Historical Society has announced the topic of the final program of the year’s lecture series has been changed to “The Settlers versus Col. Josiah Little.” The program will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the High Street Congregational Church.

Local author Douglas I. Hodgkin will speak on the subject. Hodgkin will draw much of his information from his research on Lewiston history published in his book, “Frontier to Industrial City: Lewiston Town Politics, 1768 to 1863.” The talk will include descriptions of incidents throughout what is now Androscoggin County, including Minot, Danville and other towns, as well as Lewiston.

Pomona grange

TOPSHAM – Androscoggin Pomona Grange will be guests of Sagadahoc Pomona at Topsham Grange on Pleasant Street on Wednesday, May 27. Supper will be served at 6 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7:15. Members of Androscoggin Pomona will fill the offices and the program will be presented by the visiting lecturer. All Pomona grangers and guests are welcome to attend.

Dog obedience

AUBURN – The Great Falls Dog Obedience Club will have a six-week dog obedience class starting Wednesday, May 27. Dogs and puppies must be at least 3 1/2 months old and vaccinated. For more information and to register, call the club’s trainer Diane Harrington at 784-7578.

Danville Grange

AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the hall. The Memorial Day program will be presented by Chaplain Jane Gordon.
