CHAMPION, N.Y. (AP) – State police say a fourth teenager has died following in a fiery one-car crash in central New York.

Police say a speeding sport-utility vehicle veered off a rural road in Jefferson County on Saturday night and slammed into a utility pole and then a tree before bursting into flames.

The 17-year-old driver, Rebecca Besaw of Watertown, N.Y., was killed. Also dead at the scene were 14-year-old Denise Yeman and 18-year-old Susan Melgar. A fourth teen, 18-year-old David Van Epps, died in the hospital on Sunday.

The vehicle’s owner, 23-year-old Tara Armer, remained hospitalized in Syracuse.
