BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Maine’s entrant in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., says it’s much easier the second time around.
Imogen Page, an eighth-grader at Blue Hill Consolidated School, said before Tuesday’s competition that she was feeling relaxed, compared to last year. She bided her time by making word lists and chatting with other speller from across the country.
Tuesday’s competition features a written exam, followed by an oral exam. The finals of the spelling bee will be held Thursday night.
Page made it into the quarterfinals last year and she tells the Bangor Daily News that she hopes to make it into the semifinals this year.
