JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – A man has been taken into custody at Missouri’s Capitol after authorities say he yelled and stomped on the official state seal.

Capitol Police said James Bohling, 42, of Cole County, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of misdemeanor assault for allegedly pushing a tour guide during the disturbance.

Tourists said the man stomped on the bronze state seal that is roped off in the rotunda and he yelled something about “diplomatic immunity.”

Police said the man then ran past a group of children and pushed a tour guide. A Capitol Police officer then tackled the man.

Spokesman Jack Cardetti said Gov. Jay Nixon heard the disturbance from his office on the second floor.

A local phone number for a J. Bohling was disconnected.
