AUBURN – Gerard R. Caron, 77, of 1048 Sabattus St., Lewiston, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 19, from complications of cancer at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn.

He was born December 18, 1931, the son of Alphee and Antoinette Poulin Caron. He attended Lewiston schools and also attended CMVTI, earning a certificate in textiles.

Gerard served in the Korean War, earning three bronze service stars, and then later served in the Army Reserves. He worked at the Bates Mill and the Hill Division as a supervisor until their closing, and later worked at Philips Elmet as a maintenance supervisor. In retirement, Gerard enjoyed part-time work at Hudson Bus Lines.

On September 25, 1954, he married the former Beatrice Cloutier in Holy Family Church. He was a talented musician and enjoyed writing his own music. He enjoyed playing softball and was an avid hockey and baseball fan. He was a great cook and loved cooking for his family and friends.

Gerard was a member of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 153 in Lisbon.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Beatrice of Lewiston; a daughter, Irene, and husband, Bruce O’Donnell, of Turner; a son, Marcel and wife, Karen, of Lewiston; a granddaughter, Alanna; a grandson, Scott; a sister, Theresa Leveille; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Norman, who passed away in January; and an infant son, Michael.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and Dr. Austin at the Hospice House for the loving care they gave Gerard during his final illness.
