NORWAY – A 45-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Tuesday evening after a domestic disturbance report uncovered drugs.

Melvin Clifford Nooks, of Pleasant Street in Fitchburg, was charged with aggravated drug trafficking. He remained at the Oxford County Jail on Wednesday on $35,000 bail.

Chief Robert Federico of the Norway Police Department said police investigated a report of a domestic assault at 8 Cottage St. and found marijuana prepackaged for sale.

“It wasn’t a large amount, but it was enough the way it was packaged to charge him with aggravated trafficking,” he said.

Police also found one rock of crack cocaine and more than $2,000 in cash. The charge was aggravated because the residence is within 1,000 feet of the drug-free zone of the town’s recreational field on Cottage Street.

Federico said no assault occurred at the residence.

According to his booking sheet at the jail, Nooks is a professional entertainer and promoter and had been staying at the Cottage Street residence for the past few weeks. Federico said he believed he was visiting people there.
