LEWISTON – For the first time, Lewiston Adult Education will offer additional summer courses in the evenings to help members of the community build work and computer skills, complete high school credentials, prepare for college or learn a new seasonal recipe or craft.

LAE will offer high school diploma and college prerequisite courses, including algebra, biology, chemistry and “Critical Reading Strategies for College or Work.” A math refresher course will also be available for those looking to review concepts in general math through algebra.

The “College Transition Program” and “Career Transitions: Health Care Edition” will be available to adults interested in matriculating in a college-degree program in the next year. The programs are offered free.

Computer courses will include “Absolute Beginner Computers,” “Basic Keyboarding,” “Business Writing,” “Computer Literacy,” “MS Excel I and II,” “PC Troubleshooting and Maintenance I and II” and “QuickBooks I and II.”

Additional workforce training courses will include medical terminology and the culinary arts certificate course.

Seasonal courses for personal enrichment will be available. Cooking classes will include “Classic Maine Chowdahs” and “Summertime Garnishing.”

Summer art and craft classes will include a garden pottery workshop, glass jewelry box and stained glass candle shelter. A vinyasa yoga sampler will also be offered for those looking to try a new kind of yoga.
