TROY, Vt. (AP) – A Jay, Vt., man has been charged with shooting his adult daughter in the stomach with a rifle.
Police say 53-year-old David Holmes shot 24-year-old Heather Mayhew at her home in Troy after an argument early Saturday evening. He also is accused of pointing the gun at Mayhew’s husband and infant child.
Holmes had left the house by the time police arrived, but was arrested at his home later and charged with attempted murder, domestic assault, reckless endangerment and violating the terms of his release on a drunk driving charge.
Mayhew underwent surgery Saturday evening and is in stable condition.
