HEBRON – No one can quite remember what was put in the time capsule “buried” in the Hebron Station School library in 2002, so it’ll be somewhat of a surprise when it’s opened June 16.

“The only thing people can remember is the padlock to the old building where the town hall is now,” said Maury Blake, a librarian who was there when the capsule was “buried” after the new school was built that year.

Blake said she also recalls the keys that the contractors used to open the new school were placed in the capsule, but that’s about it.

“I can’t remember,” she chuckled.

Blake said Trish Curtis was the teaching principal at the time and placed the padlock in the time capsule during the ceremony on Nov. 7, 2002.

“I remember it being placed in and then hidden behind the woodwork,” she said. “To my knowledge it has not been been touched since then.”

School officials will open the time capsule that was placed behind a panel in the library bookshelves.

Six former students who will be graduating from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School on June 13 will be at the event to talk about some of their memories of the school. They are Hilary Aube, Dustin Flanders, Jacob Slattery, Courtney Burnham, Joshua Desrosier and Jonathan Desrosiers.

Three other former Hebron Station students will also attend. They are Lisa DesRochers, who graduated from OHCHS last year, and Kayla Leveille and Vanessa Snell, who attend schools outside the district.

All nine students were sixth-graders when the time capsule was put in place.

Superintendent Mark Eastman will also be at the ceremony.

The school was constructed for $3.1 million in 2002 and won awards for its design. It now houses about 110 students. The former school was renovated several years later into the current town hall.
