BRUNSWICK (AP) – Former Maine Rep. Tom Allen is donating his papers from his congressional terms to Bowdoin College’s George Mitchell Department of Special Collections and Archives.

Allen graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin in 1967, and was a Rhodes Scholar.

He served as an overseer of the Brunswick college. His gift ensures that Allen’s papers during his time in Congress will be preserved and made accessible to the public.

Allen, a Democrat, represented Maine’s 1st District from 1997 to 2009. He challenged Republican Susan Collins for her Senate seat in November and lost.

Since April, Allen has been president of the Association of American Publishers.
