NEW GLOUCESTER – A Gray man was transported to a local hospital Sunday night with head and internal injuries after his vehicle crashed into a tree, police said.

Eric Bruns, 28, was trapped inside the vehicle and emergency workers had to cut it to free him, according to a statement issued by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. New Gloucester fire Chief Gary Sacco said that more than 10 firefighters and emergency personnel assisted at the scene on Gloucester Hill Road.

Bruns was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by United Ambulance. He was listed in fair condition Monday by hospital officials.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
