AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — State officials say hundreds of Maine unemployment recipients have received direct-deposit information about other people, including their Social Security numbers.

Dick Thompson of the state Office of Information Technology told the Kennebec Journal in Augusta that the misinformation was sent out to nearly 600 recipients May 27 while the office produced material for the Labor Department.

Thompson says an equipment malfunction led to the error in which recipients received one page with their own information and another page with information belonging to a different person. Thompson says there has been no indication data was used improperly.
