LISBON – Members of Students Against Destructive Decisions at Lisbon High School sponsored a Healthy Decisions Day on Friday, April 17.
The day was planned to show students the consequences of making bad decisions and to show them they can have a fun time without drugs or alcohol.
Members of S.A.D.D. planned the day with the help of adult coordinators of the group, Pauline Mathieu, Officer Renee Bernard and Detective Bernie McAllister.
S.A.D.D. meets twice a month at the high school and several nights at the police department throughout the school year to plan this event.
Throughout the day, there were different healthy activities for students including Wii Sports, a seat belt safety demonstration, a K-9 demonstration, rock climbing and kickball.
A mock car crash, which featured what could happen by drinking and driving, followed the activities of the day.
All Lisbon emergency departments participated in the mock crash. Actors in the crash scene were members of the S.A.D.D. group.
An assembly in the gym was presented to the entire student body as the final component of the program.
The parents of one of the mock crash members shared a moving speech addressing what it was going to be like without a daughter.
The event marks the first time in a few years the group has sponsored a Healthy Decisions Day. Public service announcements are also provided by students through the S.A.D.D. program.
