LEWISTON – Hope House, located at 91 and 87 College St., will have an open house with a free lunch and tours of the renovated Pregnancy and Single Moms’ Support Center from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7.

In December, winter costs forced Hope House to shut down some of it’s programs, and operate out of the smallest of it’s buildings on College Street. It’s buildings were also in need of repairs that Hope House could not afford.

Little by little, the organization has received help and the community rallied to keep the local work afloat. The buildings now boast a makeover, as repairs and a fresh paint job were done by volunteers. Volunteers have also staffed a full summer program, offering classes for parents and activities for children through August.

“It’s great that the original model of the work, the center here in Lewiston, has a better chance now of being maintained. It’s heartening to see that the community values the help we give area mothers,” said Bruce Willson, who with his wife Jan, founded and oversees the work.

Hope House still needs help, but the staff is encouraged by the show of local support. Plans are still being made to reach out to other countries, and continue helping women and children in other places.
