LEWISTON – Lewiston High School has announced the four winners in the school’s 10th annual science fair, held May 7.

The winning sophomores received prizes for their projects during the school’s annual “Night of Excellence” on June 1.

“The fair was a great success,” said Laurie Haines, a science teacher at the high school and coordinator of the fair. “We had approximately 230 projects that were evaluated by 75 volunteer judges from Bates College, the Lewiston school district and local law enforcement, to name a few.”

The winners are:

Ali Butler, who won first place for her project, “The Effects of Different Teaching Styles.”

Cody Dussault, second-place winner for a project titled “Lacrosse: More Shooters, More Accuracy?”

Kelsey Cope-Norris, third-place winner for “Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer.”

Jonathan Soucy, who won fourth prize for “Airfoil Efficiency.”

The science fair was sponsored by the Bates Biology Club, a student organization at the college that donated the cash prizes. Prizes ranged from $100 for first place to $40 for fourth place.
