Brown, Bluegrass Connection will play in Greene
GREENE — Erica Brown and The Bluegrass Connection will perform Thursday and Friday, June 11-12, at Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial.
A Lewiston resident, Brown has a talent for combining the precision of classical music with the spontaneity of bluegrass fiddle.
Making up The Bluegrass Connection, besides Brown on fiddle and vocals, are Ken Taylor,  bass and vocals; Matt Shipman, guitar and vocals; Eric Robertson, mandolin and vocals; and Read McNamara, banjo.
Brown has produced and released four CDs. The first, “Bowing The Strings” was recorded in 1999, when she was 15. It contains 22 fiddle tunes, capturing both French-Canadian and bluegrass styles. Her second and third, “Just Taking Notes” and “Imagine that,” were released in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Her most recent CD, “Box of Memories,” released in 2006, features a selection of traditional French-Canadian fiddle tunes as well as traditional bluegrass instrumentals and vocals.
In 2003, Brown was distinguished by the Maine Country Music Association with its Junior Female Entertainer of the Year award; three years later, she received a Maine Arts Commission Traditional Arts Apprenticeship award.
After a short break due to a busy schedule, she will return in the fall to the University of Maine at Augusta, where she is studying audio recording.
The concerts at Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road, are at 7 p.m. June 11 and at 2 and 7 p.m. June 12. Admission is free. Doors will open one hour before shows. For more information, call 946-5311.
