WINTHROP – Ethel Maud (Getchell) Brown, 88, died Thursday, June 4.

She was born to Joseph and Hazel (Goodwin) Getchell in Levant on June 23, 1920.

She married Floyd A. Brown on May 27, 1939, in Levant. He passed away in September 2000.

As a longtime resident of West Farmington, she was involved with Eastern Star, Amaranth, Grange, VIS, and was a member of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church of Farmington.

One of her accomplishments was earning her GED and attending the University of Maine at Farmington late in life.

She is survived by children, Hazel and Bill Hiscock of Glenburn, and daughter, Crystal; Rosalie and Evan Churchill of Eliot, and son, Michael; Joy and Dale Rice of Winthrop, and daughters, Donna, Cindy, Patty; Avanelle “Pinky” and Preston Lougee, of Fayetteville, Ark., and sons, Jeffery, Kevin and Ricky; Floyd and Judith Brown of Belgrade, and son, Bradley, and daughters, Victoria, Amanda, and Rebeccah; Hermalina and Joaquin Hernandez of Franklin, N.H., and sons, Nelson and Jaime, and daughter, Ivonne; 22 great-grandchildren; and, three great-great-grandchildren.

Of her eight siblings, she is survived by five, Ernest Getchell of Corinna, Linwood Getchell of Levant, Herbert Getchell of Massachusetts, Darlene Getchell of Pennsylvania, and Lee Getchell of Arkansas.

She was predeceased by sisters, Faye Tasker, Francis Wheeldon, and Joan Getchell; and by a grandson, Matthew Churchill.
